Christians are being urged to remind Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of his promises to protect religious freedom.

Freedom for Faith, a Christian legal think tank that exists to see religious freedom protected and promoted in Australia, has begun a petition to remind the Albanese government to continue to protect individuals and faith based organisations.

“Currently, many anti-faith lobby groups and some politicians are actively working to take away your right to live your faith,” the petition’s invitation says.

“(Including) your right to teach your faith and share it with a friend, your right to teach your children the biological facts of sex and gender, and even your right to pray in a public place.”

The petition which, at time of writing, has over 10,000 signatures, continues:

Your religious freedom is being pushed aside and even actively undermined.

The risk is growing that you could be sued or even prosecuted for speaking up to defend your faith, sharing it with other people… even praying for others!

Labor committed to developing a religious discrimination bill, but on the condition that it can be negotiated in a bipartisan way with the Coalition. This is a helpful commitment, because it rules out working with the Greens or other independents to push through cuts to religious freedom.

Multiple Labor MPs and Ministers promised that any changes to the rights of faith-based schools or other religious organisations to choose who they employ, or operate according to their faith, would also have to be bipartisan.

Finally, Communications Minister Michelle Rowland also ruled out reintroducing the disastrous Misinformation/Disinformation Bill, because of its impacts on religious freedom.

These promises are not perfect, but they are encouraging.

Now we need to make sure they keep them.

Many lobby groups and politicians who have an anti-faith agenda are using their political clout to undermine faith in this nation, creating a toe-the-line culture that’s more about being seen to be politically correct than living by faith and strong values.

At local, state and federal levels, it’s important to defend your faith and let decision-makers and political leaders know that religious freedom matters to you, and they need to keep their promises.

Your action today matters more than you might think!

Labor needs to be constantly reminded of their promises, and that people are watching.

By signing the petition below, you’re joining with thousands of Australians to send a message loud and clear: religious freedom matters.

After you sign, please share the petition with your family and friends and on your social media. The more people who sign, the greater the impetus for this vital issue.

So thank you for signing the petition below calling on Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to pledge to protect religious freedom.
