Truth Be Told, by Lionel Windsor.

Do you find it hard to trust news reports? Do you see conflicting stories and images shared on social media? Are you fed up with lies being told in the public square?  Well, fake news is old news. And that’s not a good thing. We’re not even surprised lies are passed as truth anymore.

It seems we can’t trust anything or anyone these days. And that’s because we have a truth problem. So many lies have been told and we’re at a crisis point of doubting the very possibility of truth, let alone finding truth. But, if we can’t find truth, or worse, if there isn’t objective truth at all, how could we even have a conversation? How could relationships be even possible without truth?

I recently finished reading/listening to the book, Truth Be Told by Lionel Windsor (Matthias Media, 2023). The book explores our truth problem, starting from the most obvious to the most personal. It then shows how the Bible gives the answer to our truth problem in the person of Jesus, full of grace and truth. It also surveys various parts of the Bible that deal with our truth problem. And finally, the book suggests practical ways we can live by the truth.

In all, Truth Be Told was the most satisfying book I’ve read recently. It was timely, practical, and deeply biblical. But it was also challenging, because I realised I’m not as innocent as I tend to think of myself, when it comes to the truth problem. I had to admit that I quickly believed a lie sometimes, because it fit my preferences and assumptions. And I may have passed on a lie, misinformation, half-truths, perpetuating the truth problem. I may have also tried to hide the truth for the sake of my own reputation. This book has helped me think about how I need to change in order to be truthful and I will need to keep reflecting on this and repent of my untrue ways, knowing the grace and truth available in Jesus.

If you are looking for a book to read, I highly recommend Truth Be Told. (The audiobook is narrated by the author himself, Lionel Windsor, and I found it very enjoyable to listen to.)
